The time is 1933. During night battle practice the U.S.S. California's 5-inch secondary battery engages an imaginary enemy. All fire control, by day or by night, was visual. This painting, by Chief Gunner's Mate E.B. Burbank, U.S. Navy, was used as a recruiting poster.
