Abstract
When one peers into the future to foresee geostrategic trends and issues, the difficulty of making accurate predictions looms ominously. Many past predictions have missed the mark by wide margins. Thousands of academics, think-tank scholars, and government officials devoted years of effort and huge sums of money to analyzing future trends in the Soviet Union. Not a single prediction, as far as the author is aware, came close to describing the actual denouement of the USSR
