Abstract

Mention of the term "seapower" is certain to evoke a reference, spoken or otherwise, to Capt. Alfred Thayer Mahan. His thoughts, ideas, and concepts have been discussed, repeated, and enshrined, particularly and appropriately in naval circles, ever since the publication in 1890 of his seminal book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History which was followed by nearly a quarter of a century of prolific writing until his death in 1914.
