Abstract
There have been numerous dramatic developments in the Middle East during the past year. Although 1981 will not be remembered as a year that contained events with the significance of those in 1956, 1967, 1973, and 1977, it will nonetheless be recalled as a turbulent and intense year in the history of this most dynamic area.
