Abstract
On 30 April 1982, following nearly fifteen years of preparations and formal deliberation, The Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 111) finally adopted a new, comprehensive treaty on the Law of the Sea, The vote was 130 nations in favor, 4 opposed, and 17 abstentions. The United States cast one of the four negative votes.
