Abstract
The lecture title assigned to me is at once convenient and embarrasing [sic] - convenient, because it gives me a very wide latitude indeed; and embarrassing, because it implies on my part pretentions to oracular wisdom. I don't think I can describe the characteristics of a sound strategy except, perhaps, in the most general and abstract terms.
