The Role of the Press

Abstract

Before the discussion phrase of this panel begins, I would like to express a few general thoughts I have about the role of the press in our society, what role the press is playing now, and what sort of role, ideally speaking, it ought to be playing. Whenever I get a chance to talk to a group of governement officials, someone usually ask me, "What's wrong with the American press?"
