Naval War College Review
Abstract
Today, of the over 2,400 satellites in Earth orbit, only about one hundred are operated by nongovernmental organizations or private conpanies. That situation is changing: in the next ten years as many as a thousand more commercial communication satellites will be placed into orbit. These systems will provide on-demand, worldwide telecommunications.
