Naval War College Review
Abstract
When Admiral Shuford asked me to make a trip to Newport, it brought back wonderful memories of my time here as a junior officer, with Lieu- tenant Jake Shuford. I can’t say much more about that, mostly on advice of coun- sel, but suffice to say it was a wonderful time and involved jazz festivals, a lot of time on the tennis court, sailing, and an occasional cold beer. It’s wonderful and inspiring to see what a joint, interagency, and international event this is today. I do want to begin with a story which illustrates a bit about each of the services.
