Abstract
The 1949 battle of Quemoy, a significant event in the military history of the People’s Republic of China, was not only a turning point for the civil war that remains unresolved across the Taiwan Strait but also the beginning of a chain of events that shaped the Cold War throughout Asia and the Pacific region for decades.
