Abstract
Despite long-standing in-house and public interest in USN war gaming, new technologies and geopolitical realities have left the practice in waters of unknown depth and contours. Finding a way forward will require leaving behind the fog of unvarnished praise and criticism and answering the following question: What benefit do war games actually deliver?
